Psycho wombat for the most part is made up of James McDonough on bass, guitar, vocals, keyboards and whatever the hell he can get his hands on when we are recording, he is also a gifted songwriter. | ![]() |
Gavin Van Eede plays guitar, bass and should never be let near a drum kit under any circumstance. He is allowed to do vocals as no one else has ever bothered to learn his lyrics, although James did learn "Summer Rain" for his alternate band The Fizzle heads. | ![]() |
David McDougall is just filling in really,he has been filling in now on drums for the best part of 20 years. He will write songs when pushed to and owns the most expensive guitar in the band, strung left handed so no one else can play it. |

We have also had the privilege of playing with a line up that includes Brendan "Batman" Roberts on drums and John Rees on bass. This line up is basically a covers band that has never actually had a rehearsal. Most gigs are a lot of fun as long as no one asks us to play "Down Under".Both Brendan and John have a long musical history and have played in many bands of different styles over the years. This charming photo was taken after a gig in a bar at Venus Bay. The lighting is from a local police car's head lights. | ![]() |
Mr Bruce Corr has also taken time out of his busy schedule to play bass with the Wombats on occasion. In alot of ways, that 4 piece line up is the best we have had over the years. James is free to play lead and slide guitar and harmonica which gives us a great bluesy sound. |

IN THE BEGINNING Long long ago, in a pub far far away, Gavin suddenly awoke to realize he had lost his bass player. At much the same time, James was busy jamming away, not realizing he didn't have a guitarist. This may have been because James, himself was a guitarist, but he was playing bass at the time. Now the drummer who had woken Gavin from his slumber was Nigel Wraight. As fate would have it, Nigel was also the drummer in James band. Being incredibly smart for a drummer, he saw the opportunity to amalgamate both bands and solve all their problems. It may also explain why he later left to take up keyboards. This became the first band James & Gavin would play in together, it was called "Skyline" which may have been the make of a car some one in the band was driving. The line up was Helena Galvin: Vocals, James McDonough: Bass, Gavin Van Eede: Guitar, Vaughn Curtis: Guitar, and Nigel Wraight on drums. The journey had begun, we should have started counting beers right then. |
